And you needn't worry--it is quite difficult for metallic
lead to get into the food chain. It is only when lead is
oxidized into soluble compounds (carbonates and acetates,
mostly) that it is a biohazard.
Old paint containing lead oxide pigments partially converts
to lead carbonate over many years, and that both tends to
slough off as powder and is relatively soluble. Of course,
ingesting lead oxide will expose it to stomach acids, which
will dissolve it and cause trouble.
In other words, you can lick your fingers after handling
solder if you want--but it won't make them feel much better.
Use some ice. ;-)
