Vince:
Pop a volt meter on there and light it all up with fewest cards.  Then 
add cards one by one (_while off_) until all slots are filled or you 
have your optimal configuration.  Note whether or not the voltage drops 
at all as you go.  If it does, you are nearing the limits of your power 
supply and should consider a replacement or backing off on cards.  Since 
you are a hacking kind of guy, I'd recommend a nice 90W ATX power supply 
like this...

Oops, camera is dead at the moment.  Will recharge and post a pic if 
interested.  :)  Of course I have mine in my IIgs, but even easier to 
get one in a IIe style case, much more leg room.
