Presumably you just want to extract the raw ASCII text that's contained
in the data fork, and save that into a non-forked file that 8-bit AppleWorks
can open and read, correct?
I have a solution: Copy the Mac WordPerfect file onto an HFS floppy disk,
then install Hermes NDA on the Apple IIgs running System 6. Hermes will ask
(automatically) if you want to open the resource or data fork, and then
display the complete document--which hopefully doesn't contain formatting
codes (I'm sure they're probably stored in the resource fork).
You can then use Hermes to save the file in ASCII format to a ProDOS
disk and easily import it into AppleWorks. Hermes itself incidentally is a
nearly full-featured word processor that runs as a Desk Accessory but
definitely not as quick as classic AppleWorks.
All the Apple II FTP sites seem to be down or gone, but I was able to
find the older version of Hermes called "Shadowrite". If this version won't
do what you want, let me know and I'll e-mail you Hermes.
