Re: Uther card works on Apple IIplus with contiki

I've been pretty busy this month but had to try out my Uther card I got from Glenn. My Apple II of choice is my original IIplus that I've had since 1980 new from Computerland.

Vince I saw your other post about the date code of your 6502 (8223). Does that mean you changed it at some point?

I installed the Uther card in slot 4 of my IIplus and kept my SSC in slot 2. I'm using a Saturn 32k card but I think a good working 16K card will be fine.

After reading Glenns notes about needing a 6502A I got to thinking about this. The clock speed is set but the II board, not the CPU so there should be no difference using the original 6502 processor with the Uther card.

Even thoug the 6502A is a 2MHz part it is still run @ 1MHz. The difference is in the tolerances for setup and hold times. the table in this url explains it >http://web.pdx.edu/~heiss/technotes/aiie/tn.aiie.04.html

Whats confuses me a bit is the rockwell datasheet that I have indicated my CPU is a 1Mhz part as it does not have a letter designator (A or B for 2 and 3Mhz respectivly).

So if I really have a 1MHz rockwell part, I am back to square one on why one cpu works and the other doesns't.

Loaded up Contiki and it wouldn't DHCP, load pages, nothing. Then I noticed the 2 cards were seperated a little from the strain of the ethernet cable. A zip tie is a great fix for this and DHCP worked, I could ping the apple II from my pc. Loaded the web browser and it works like a champ.

While typing this message the screensave failed to load because "out of memory", no major deal.

Overall the Uther ethernet card is a great ethernet solution and my hats off for the fine work. I recomend this product.

Thank You

I'm going to configure mail next and give that a try. I'll post more results on that this weekend.

Have fun ..
