Hi Scott,

Wow, I must say, I've gone ahead reducing the BPP to 4-bit greyscale, what a
dramatic
reduction in file size. I'm happy enough with the results that I'm going to
redo all
the manuals on my site in this manner.

I did try 1 BPP greyscale, but it seemed to be losing too much image quality
for
my liking. C'est la vie! :)

I finished scanning the DOS manual, and it weighed in at 29.5 MB JPG 24-bit
color.
After converting all the slides to GIF, 4-bit greyscale and 4-bit color for
the pages with
green or color, it's nowt 8.9MB in size and available here:

A savings of (to me) an incredible 20.6 MB of un-necessary color / bpp data!

Thank you to all who provided suggestions on scanning, and bpp information!

Later,
