It did, yes. It was 7 MHz, wasn't it? (memory fading.)
Apple engineers also reportedly tested the 816 (maybe not necessarily in
the MT itself) at much greater speeds, because Dave Lyons had an
interesting mention of things holding up reliably to about 16 MHz or so.
[I don't recall what the issue was... timing or interrupt handling?]
