Quite a few Commodores have both 65xx and Z-80 processors and run CP/M
handily. Inappropriate analogy.

Not only that but the C128 (which is "a new model" of C64) actually boots off the Z80 CPU before handing control to the 6502-class CPU, if I recall correctly. So they did indeed go from 65xx to Z80 in a later model :P
