Heres the final word:

It works....What happened is the fact that the wrong cable was first
used was actually wrong...but I fixed that by making my own..

I then realized that the normal DIAL command from the menu doesnt work.
 You need to hand type all the commands...so for instance, i would type
AT&DD278 etc.... and that would dial.....

i have to just learn all the modem commands, and then I think im set...

Thanks for all the help. The cable works great and now the software is
coming along just fine. =) So if ever someone neeeds help getting Modem
Manager to work, give me a call. =)
