Originally Macs could only read/write ProDOS disks using a utility such as
Passport (I can't remember whether that was ever more than beta software) or
Apple File Exchange. (A quick Google showed that AFE was shipping for longer
than I remembered - it should be part of your OS6!) This later became PC
Exchange and finally(?) just File Exchange.
The advantage of AFE is that it does internal file translation for some file
types.
You could also scout the web for Apple's "ProDOS File System" init which
allowed ProDOS disks to be mounted and read (without any file translation).
Lastly, I think later versions of Apple's disk image utility (DiskCopy?)
would handle ProDOS disks - I can't remember whether KEGS can handle disks
in that image format.
