I've actually been pretty happy with Hyperterminal on Windows.  I've
always used CiderPress (http://www.faddensoft.com) to package files
together into an archive and ShrinkIt on the Apple end to unpack the
files.

If you use Linux, here is a really cool way to use the IIGS as a
terminal for the PC:

I've had success achieving speeds up to 56kbps on an unaccelerated ROM
03 system, and I've been able to use ProTERM (on the Apple) and the
rz/sz programs (on Linux) for ZMODEM file transfers.
