I haven't seen it mentioned in this thread yet, but what you require is
simply a "3.6 volt Lithium (1/2 AA size)" battery.
These can be purchased at any battery or electronics store and on
average sell for about $5 each. I believe even current Macintosh G5
motherboards use the very same batteries, so you could walk into a
store and simply request a replacement clock-battery for your Apple
Macintosh.
Replacing the battery on the ROM 3 motherboard couldn't be more
simple: Power-down, remove the snap-on clip cover over the existing
battery, swap in the fresh battery (make sure the positive terminal is
pointing in the right direction), replace the battery cover, done! These
type of batteries should last between 5-10 years, though I find that
varies greatly (I have some ROM 01's with their original batteries).
