Interfacing the Apple

I am trying to hook up the bus on one of my Apple][+ so that it can control 
a robotic arm my son and I are building. I would also like to be able to 
control the computer with a second A][+. I am sure it is not as easy am 
POKEing or PEEKing values into the corresponding ADDResses of the bus or 
someone would have marketed a kit a long time ago.

Is there a chart or a book where I can get good information on how the bus 
on the Apple][+ is laid out?
