A 'q' often referred to SQueeze compression, which was incorporated into
BLU (Binary ][ Library Utility).

If you send a file to me I can poke at it.  You can also try a quick test:
add it to a Binary ][ archive with BLU, then immediately extract it.
(Assuming you have BLU -- it became a bit more rare once ShrinkIt showed up.)
