Re: .shk to .dsk help

Ok, can the opposite be done? I posted a message couple monthes back
and was recommended ordering ShrinkII v1.1 from syndicomm. Just
received and found out that it doesn't work with DSK images. So
pretty much I wasted $19. It handles SHK files, but I have a bunch of
DSK images that I want to get back to an original Apple II/GS system
thru a LC575 and emulator board.

Here's the deal. Shrinkit is an Apple2 program and must be run on an Apple or emulator. The P8 version will compress floppy disk images if you run an emulator and use the .dsk image files on it. Choices may be limited as to which emulator to use depending on the hardware you are using. Personally, I prefer Apple Oasis which can deal with a variety of image sizes. It can use an HD image as well which makes working with image files easier.

Another possibility is CiderPress for manipulating disk image contents (putting those .shk files in a .dsk image) but I've just started using it so I'm not sure of all it's features.

Alternatively, make a simple cable and use ADT to transfer the files. See the FAQ which was recently released. This info is in there.

FWIW, Shrinkit running on an Apple (or clone) is worth the fee. It's the defacto archive application for the 8 bit Apple. Shrinkit GS works great for GSOS files with forked file but it won't shrink a floppy image, AFAIK.

Hope I didn't leave out anything important here but I know the folks here will fill in any thing I missed.
