To all CFFA users,
As many of you know the current version of logic in the CPLD shipping is
v1.3. This was an update from v1.2 that allowed my card to work in the
Apple II+ and IIe. It also was suppose to improve overall timing
margins.
Recently, enough customers are having problems with larger CF cards that
I decided to investigate a little further. I bought a 256MB SanDisk CF
card and found that it didn't work at all. To my embarrassment it
appears that in making v1.3 I messed up the timing in other areas.
Specifically the timing of the latch operation that latches the high
byte during a read cycle from the ATA device so the Apple can then read
the high byte. NOTE: v1.2 CPLD does not have this timing problem.
So after more carefully looking at the timing, several key changes have
been made. These changes will become v1.4 CPLD. After more testing, and
hopefully some beta testing by others, I will let everyone know.
The good news is that now all of the SanDisk and Lexar cards I have all
appear to work fine. The Lexar cards have never worked for me before.
To get this update out to customers, I think I am going to offer two
options,
A) Send me your CPLD and I will reprogram it and send it back. No
charge.
B) I will send you a new CPLD at no charge, and you send back your old
one.
The customer pays the shipping to get his chips to me and I will pay the
shipping to send the return chips.
Thanks,
Rich Dreher
