The prying and reseating method is actually quite sound, since the contacts between the chip leads and the sockets is wiped with quite a lot of force, and the final state is about as good as it would be with new chips in new sockets--unless the socket contacts have lost their springiness. This is a particular issue if something has been inserted into the socket (even once) which is substantially thicker than an IC pin, as when a DIP header is plugged in where a chip was. -michael New Applesoft BASIC interface for NadaNet networking!
