: Hello All,
:
: I am having a problem with my IIGS system and for the life of me I
: can't figure it out.
:
: I can read 5.25" floppies (ProDos and 3.3) from the Finder in GS/OS
: 6.0.1 fine but I cannot write to them. The error I get is "The disk
: ... is write protected."
I can explain why you can't write to a DOS 3.3 disk
in GSOS. Being based on ProDOS 16, it just isn't
capable, so GSOS locks out the write ability to them.
As to not being able to write ProDOS on a 5.25 "
disk, I have no idea. Mine does just fine. If your
only problem is with DOS 3.3, then the explanation
above should suffice. You need the ProDOS.FST
file installed in order to read and write to ProDOS
disks, but if you can read them, then that must be there.
If the disk icon has a LOCK in front of the volume
name, try doing an OpenApple-I and there should
be a check box there that is checked, uncheck that
and you should be good to go. Only ProDOS though,
as DOS 3.3 is permanently locked out from writes.
I hope this has helped you. Email me for further help.
