system saver running, so hopefully it's fan will help with the heat (I
had one on my original system also, though in it's last years, it's fan
was running slower and slower- the one I have now zips right along).

I will try the configuration suggested- flash boot in slot 7, leave
5.25" in slot 6, 3.5" in slot 5, clock in slot 4. I have a serial card
in slot 2.

I have a slinky ram card but think I will leave it out for now anyway.

Do the drive interface cards draw much power when they are not being
used?

Those are all very "cool" cards--you have no heat worries.

That would remain true even with a memory expansion card.
