I was reading part of a forum on it and they were
saying that it does go through the PSone. Without
it you get audio and some backlighting, but no video.

I just received mine, and tried it with a mini-AV plug to RCA cable
(video+ 2 audio cables), and it worked fine with NTSC sources and with
my //e.

The report that it requires a PS/1 is clearly in error.

Quality is exactly what you would expect for a composite color input--
acceptable for 40 columns, barely readable (and therefore unusable) for
80 columns.  Colors are great.  LCD is bright and sharp.

It will be interesting to see if this can be used as an NTSC-scan RGB
monitor with some cabling...
