Cheating AppleShare with IIc+

Here's something cool...

I've been messing about with ProTERM, running it "unattended" on my IIgs
with my IIc+ connected by null-modem... pretty cool moving files back
and forth at 19200 and having a jolly old time.

Then I thought to myself: "self, why not take this a step further and
throw a Mac in the mix?"... so I started Filesharing on my LC475 (Sys
7.5) and connected the IIgs via LocalTalk; booted the IIgs into GSOS,
connected to the Mac server and then fired up ProTERM. 

Lo and behold, the Mac's HD shows up in ProTERM, so I set the ProTERM on
the IIgs to "unattended" and then logged in with the IIc+... would you
believe the Mac is now accessible to the IIc+ and I can view the
contents of the HD???

"All well and good, but what about transferring files?" you ask... I had
a few assorted Apple II files sitting on the Mac that I'd already
unforked with ProType, so I tried transferring a few over.... Fast? not
at all -- about 1KB per second... reliable? Surprisingly, yes -- of all
the files I transferred (using Zmodem) I could not find a single error:
text files arrived in English with correct line feeds; Shrinkit archives
unshrunk to perfection; and binary files came through with not a single
bit out of place.

Is it practical, though? Probably not, but I've found that doing floppy
transfers from the Mac to the IIgs usually results in forked files and
diskettes that eventually become unuseable, whereas with this method I
had not a single fork to worry about.

Okay, that took care of Saturday night... ;-)
