Thats why I play with Apple II and drive a VW bus.
I can single-mindedly :-) understand, take apart,
repair, modify, and upgrade the entire machine!
I don't have to program a toolbox, API, DLL, blah
blah billions of lines of other people's code.
I don't have to deal with black box computers under the
hood, fuel injection, black box sensors. It has
what it needs to function and is understandable
_completely_ by the user. The VW has something
great called the "Idiot's Guide". A how-to for the
average human.
Reliability and efficiency don't count when you
are dependant upon other people to fix your machines.
1971 bus gets 30mpg. It doesn't break down
as long as the user maintains it. All of the information
on how to maintain it is available. That is
self-reliant and efficient.
Old stuff is cool. Millions of ideas from
millions of people didn't cloud the design.
The design is for the user, and not for the
manufacturer to make $$ on repairs.
