Monochrome vs color monitor

I had both types of monitors way back when. Now I am re-building a
system. I currently have an Apple color monitor in like-new condition.
But if my memory serves correctly, it seems like 80 column text was
sharper on the old green monochrome monitor. 

"Graphics" would be better in color, but if one was just interested in
text, I wonder if it would be worth while trying to scare up a
monochrome monitor in good condition.  Does anyone have an opinion on
this?

If memory serves, the monochrome was also lighter and smaller, making
it somewhat easier to continually remove it for tinkering with the
Apple underneath.

One the other hand, explaining why I want a second 'old piece of junk
monitor' to my loving wife might be interesting. :-)
