Officially since ~Feb 1983. There were also two non Atari scuzzy interfaces, one with a 1.4 meg floppy expansion card available.

Unofficially there was a Covus hard drive interface that worked with the Atari 800's PIA chip even before that IIRC.

Which only proves?

At some point when you start including 3rd party hacks you are no longer talking about the computer in question but some kind of hybrid. A Chevy Vega with a Ferrari engine would be fast but it's not really a Chevy Vega any more. Ultimately you are talking about what a .1 MIP 6502<which is what all the computers in question perform at> will do which is the same thing.
