I tried to reply to this thread from google news but I'm not sure if it 
showed up.
Anyway the /Ram driver is located in main mem bank 1
.When /ram driver needs to retrieve memory from Aux mem bank 1
it probably is byte by byte bank switching heavy routine to move
the data block to main memory. It probably has to move some helper code
aux mem block 3 buffer as well.
Don't really know but I'm sure the delay is true for all prodos machines.

 I'm close to finishing up a (no delay) 1 meg card driver.
max segment length 47103 bytes,  max memory 753648 bytes.

I'll be anxious for Simon to try it.
