Laine, looking over this thread it seems like I'm basically complicating
matters by trying to take the easy way out...
Some time back we were discussing something similar using the AUXMOVE
routine, which looks like it might be more practical for what I'm doing.
One thing that came up at that time was:

Does this refer to hires graphics, or would it only affect DHR???
Looking over documents I have, it seems that AUXMEM essentially mirrors
the text and graphic areas of the main 64K, though I haven't come across
anything that explains why this is so...
