Shrink II is definitely a good utility to have, but it's not necessary.
It's been so long since I first downloaded the GS/OS disks I had
forgotten, but they are available in .sea format as well as .sdk
format. The .sea archives are the ones you want. They are
self-extracting disk images that run on the Mac and create bootable
IIgs disks.
I was wrong about the .sdk disks running on the Mac.
