Okay, I finally managed to get it going. The problem (apparently) is
that ProTerm for Macintosh doesn't like the ":9999" as part of the host
address (neither does the Terminal in OSX). I tried the ancient NCSA
Telnet app, which does allow you to set the port number seperately from
the host name and it worked fine... until the BBS crashed [sorry!]
Anyway, nice to see that HANGMAN is still there :)
