Re: Reminiscences just aren't the same without the real computer. XD

I second that, big time.

Emulation doesn't cut it. It doesn't have all those real life "nooks and crannies" that the real thing has. The look of the Apple II hi-res graphics on the relatively coarse phosphor of the AppleColor Composite Monitor.. the way the built in speaker sounds.. the smoothness of the CH Joystick as you play Lode Runner.. The sound of the Disk ][ seeking..

These sorts of things are OVER half of the nostalgia experience. Running things on emulators feels too sterile, too "perfect", and artificial. Hell, even playing original Apple II games on the IIgs feels somewhat sterile compared to the original II and IIe.

This is why I'm never going to let go of my IIe, even though I have no room to set it up and have it available to use full time. Being able to drag it out and play a few rounds of Lode Runner or Apple Panic is a wonderful thing.

Just got ADT working and started transferring old games over to my //e and playing them... My ghed, I never imagined I would feel as nostalgic especially when I had been playing them for aeons in emulation!

It was strange, I hadn't run Ms. Pac-Man on a real ][ since 1986, and here I am, playing it on teh //e, like I was 6 again, in front of the //c and its dinky 9" green screen... remembering it like it was yesterday... *__*

Emulation is nice, but if you can drag those .DSK files onto a real Apple, emulation just isn't the same. XD
