Heya. As for the CD, I know that 1-2x is about as fast as the IIGS can
process the data. Anything other than that is overkill. I read somewhere
that the most reliable CD ROMs are the 1-2xers and there were some
recommended brands as well. I'd like to say that Sony was among them,
but I've since forgotten.
As for networking, I can tell you what does work.... (drum roll)

I've got one of these puppies and I can FTP, appletalk, and telnet with
ease. I know there's a lot more you can do, but those are my areas of
interest. The card and a standard ethernet cable and you're in business.

Hi,
I recently pulled my IIgs out of its box and decided I'd try
networking it.
I'm using the latest version of netatalk compiled on a Sparcstation
10, and I've got the IIgs talking to netatalk though a Performa 6300
running LocalTalk Bridge. I've successfully logged in as a user other
than 'guest' and am working on getting printing to work.
My questions about AppleTalk:
(1) I've done a lot of poking around online, and I can't seem to find
out if anyone has succeded in using an Asante AsanteTalk device as the
EtherTalk-LocalTalk bridge. I've tried, and the IIgs AppleTalk
control panel just freezes hard or fails to appear. Has anyone gotten
a IIgs to talk on ethernet with an AsanteTalk device? I'm using the
patched control panel, and have tried powering the AsanteTalk before
and after booting the IIgs.
(2) In case the answer to #1 is 'no', what devices have worked for
people to get the IIgs to speak over ethernet? I've seen references
to the Farallon EtherWave in various places, but nobody seems to have
confirmed using one for this purpose. Anyone using one?
I really don't want to have to use the Mac to bridge my IIgs onto the
ethernet. The Mac isn't fun to play with compared to the IIgs.
On to the CD-ROM... I've got a Sony 12X SCSI CD-ROM drive that I
recently connected to my RamFast (ROM 3.00i). Often, when accessing
the CD-ROM the system freezes. Ctrl-OA-reset doesn't work, and I have
to power off both the IIgs and the CD-ROM drive. I've got the CD-ROM
drive set to a lower ID than the hard disk, as suggested in the
manual, but that didn't seem to help. Is it the ROM version on my
RamFast, or is it a compatibility problem with the CD-ROM drive?
There are no problems accessing the hard drive and it is 100% reliable
when the CD-ROM is not turned on.
Speaking of the RamFast, what ROM version is the newest? The best?
Anyone got an image? :)
