Rule #1 - don't rely on HFS for anything you can't afford to lose (on the
drive). The HFS FST for the GS is buggy, and it's not a matter of if, but
when it will blow up on you. There aren't very many utilities to repair or
salvage HFS partitions for the GS so, it's best to use it for things you
already have backups for. I use mine to keep copies of CD-ROM collections on
so I don't have to load slow CD's.
