I've just inherited a very large library of apple][ disks, around 1500-2000 including a club library and a couple hundred "softdisks" I have a friend who is working on a hardware card for the apple][ which would allow us to archive and use them directly from a PC-Apple connection. This project is far from finished, and I would like to start archiving this library. Is there already good methods for doing this?
I archived a set of club disks a number of years ago. The disks were mostly ProDOS and each contained a collection of programs, pics, docs and so forth. In this case I found it worthwhile to not only make disk images but to put the contents of each disk into a separate folder. This made it easier in some cases to search for a file there and just read it or copy it over than to search a directory and make a disk image. If your disks are in another format this aproach may not work. I also used the Prosel utilities to check the disks for errors before archiving. To save time I had two computers running. One checking and sometimes repairing disks and the other doing the archiving. Wayne
