The problem you are describing is fairly typical of the numerous free
comm programs out there. Modem MGR in particular has been described
to me (never tried it myself) as good "once you manage to get it
configured". Apparently configuration isn't particularly straight
forwarded.
My recommendation would be to obtain a copy of ProTERM A2 from InTrec
Software. (http://www.intrec.com/proterm-a2/). It is by far the best
terminal emulation program available for the Apple IIe/IIc and, in my
opinion, the IIgs. The number of features it manages to squeeze into
a 128K Apple IIe along the ease of use is unbelievable. Intrec's web
site is a little out of date since the last I heard was that they were
selling ProTERM A2 for $19.95. If your time and stress level is worth
anything to you, it's a bargain.
