Ok, here is my latest insanity: I recently got a dual serial (16550
based) PCI add on card that said it ONLY works in Windows 95 ( pulled
it from an ancient PC I did). So... of COURSE I tried it in a Mac. It
worked!
So now.. my MDD 867 boasts a Nice set of twin serial port like its
ancient cousins (only with DB9s; shades of the 128 or 512).
Now why am I mentioning this on csa2? Well! Of COURSE having a
"Honest and For Real" serial port, which even shows up in the Network
control panel, made me think right away of a Marinetti link to my
IIGS. I know these work with other older tech (I have synced my
Newton 2000 via NEWTEN on it), so was curious if anyone else has
ventured into real serial (as vs USB<>Serial like the Keyspan) OS X
networking to a Apple IIgs. This should also be possible under OS X
10.2.8 from a Beige G3 which comes with Apple installed serial ports.
What would be best/ possible? PPP? SLIP? SLiRP? Token Ring?
Anyone else ventured down this road with OS X?
