Guess you are talking about a 3.5" drive attached to the Mac? The I/O
error sounds like something is wrong with writing to the diskette in the
drive. Are you able to CAT the 3.5" diskette under ProDOS?

If you are downloading .zip or .bin files under your browser, it's
unlikely that the PC is messing them up. Same goes if you download
practically anything (with mode set to Binary) via an ftp program (like Cute
FTP or WS_FTP).
Not a Mac user; so, I do not know what sort of environment you have to
work with. (You may be better off under an earlier version of Mac System--
one that does not create forked files on ProDOS disks.)
If your only problem is that you are trying to run an early version of
DSK2FILE (in BASIC); but, the file does not have the BASIC filetype, you may
be able to fix that using a type changer program, like TYPE CHANGER:

If getting regular 8-bit ShrinkIt will make things easier ...
