Don't worry--unless you use sandpaper, you have nothing to
worry about.  The IIc case is not painted, but colored plastic.

Although a suitable (hard to find) RGB monitor produces very
sharp color displays, most games (primary use of color) for the
Apple II line were optimized for a composite monitor--which is
the "native" display of the Apple II.

Although you won't like an 80-column text display on a composite
monitor, graphics will look great.  A monochrome monitor or the
unique AppleColor Composite monitor is needed for good 80-column
displays.

BTW, you can use a Y-cable and connect a color and a mono
monitor--that was quite common among developers.
