Convention, mostly...since most such postings tend to be large and not all
news servers want to allocate the large amounts of storage needed to hold a
reasonable amount of binary traffic, they've usually been frowned upon in
discussion-type groups such as this one.

(That comp.binaries.apple2 has pretty much been taken over by people posting
"moviez" doesn't help our situation any, as a posting of (for instance) the
new VNC client for the IIGS would (for most people) get lost among the
hentai posts.)
