It is definately a ramdisk or at least some sort of battery backupped ram. I
think it might be an actual ramdisk (emulating a floppy drive), because
battery backupped static ram (6116 are 2kx8 static rams) wouldn't have
needed so much extra logic.

First thing to do is to replace the NiCad's (the batteries). These don't
seem to be leaking, but that's probably just a matter of time. A leaking
NiCad *will* destroy the PCB if it gets the chance.

You can use standard NiCad batteries, but you'll have to solder wires to
them which might prove difficult. Better to buy some NiCad's with
solder-lips, like the ones already on there.
