along those lines of the simple solution of speeding up an apple // for
under $80....using a //gs upgrade solution.....

if someone knows someone who has a metal shop that could stamp out
compatible //gs upgrade backpanels for the apple ][ box or the apple //e
box..(or even more rare...cause the apple //gs upgrade does not fit in this)
a cutout for the apple //e platinum box w/the numeric keypad version..best
would be a choice of any of the above for say less then 30 bucks..you get
the metal backplate with the motherboard holes/etc drilled and set correctly

if such metal backplates were available with the various motherboard adn
plastic setup kits and such for say .setting the motherboard inside and with
//gs motherboards at 10 bucks on ebay...or get your own or included maybe..
and a xerox instruction sheet on how to add the keybd and power
modifications for the //e power supply also in the kit ..all tossed in a box
for the conversion of your choice...well...people would prob pay 80 bucks
for that (i would) ...

just think of all the old //e //+ and etc shells that could be converted
that way...a gs upgrade in a black bell and howell...jeez....

maybe throw in a funky logo like the apple //e gs version logo for the beast
as well..ask apple for perm to use it ..they might laugh and say yes

anyway...for all i know once such backplate templates are setup from
somebody who knows metal works ..maybe you can punch them out at 10 bucks a
pop

anyway kinda a reverse revenge thing...take an old beatup apple //gs ..rip
out mother board...mod it and toss it into you orig apple ][....

thats my motto "age and treachery will always overcome youth and
skill"..revenge of the apple ][ shell...

anyway my 2c worth...so let me have it .....or am i just nuts? could someone
do an upgrade //gs clone system kit like that for less the 80 bucks?

anyway i understand the sentimental value of the apple // or //e box...i
have 3 apple //gs upgrade systems

whatever back to lurking on topic...disregard this if you wish'd for a pure
// card solution to this problem

but talk about a brute force method to upgrade your bell and howell....

brad
former sysop lost gonzo bbs (still down..but i'm getting richer and
twitchy..might put it back up)
