Network progress!
I can't find the original thread on this machine (to update - a couple
of months ago my unreliable, 7 month old 12" PowerBook was sent back to
Apple themselves instead of the repair centre, after 3 unsuccessful
attempts by AppleCare to fix it. Apple couldn't either, but stock
shortages meant no new 12" machine - to make up for it they sent me the
discontinued (but new) 1.25GHz SuperDrive model :D).
Anyway, some may remember I was trying to use my Elsie III fileserver to
netboot my IIgs /and/ run the Marinetti MacIP stack for TCP/IP - with IP
NetRouter to provide the bridging. This didn't work.
Now, I was convinced it was IPNR, even though that is a very simple
program. So tonight I finally got around to checking it using my
PowerBook Duo and Open Transport MacIP.
IPNR worked. DNS resolution worked.
I'm going to try the IIgs again later and it may or may not work.
However, I think the problem lies in the fact that my IIgs is running
off the AppleShare server on the same machine providing IPNR - possibly
the problem lies in the AppleTalk port being needed for MacIP /and/ the OS.
Anyone have experience of netbooting and networking like this? I think
yet another prod in the direction of CFFA or more determined hunting for
SCSI. Since it looks like my humble little ROM 03 is about to aquire a
Transwarp as well..
BTW, Bill - I double checked the printout, and it all matches. I'll try
some more tests soon when I've got more hardware to check ;)
