Since currents as low as 60 mA can induce ventricular fibrillation and
cardiac arrest, this also becomes a significant risk if one is unlucky
enough to touch things such that the heart is in the current pathway.
The risk of death also changes with skin resistance, so that sometimes you
get away with it: dry, intact calloused palms have a resistance of
1,000,000 to 2,000,000 ?/cm2, while sweaty skin resistance may go down to
2500 ?/cm2. At 10,000 volts with dry hands you can survive with just a
tingle, while nervously sweating can leave you dead on the floor.
