Programming for GSOS - where to start?

I haven't written a program for years, but I really want to write a version
of Apple's Newton Connection Kit (or the later version) for GS/OS - at the
very least a package manager and connection utility; ideally I'd like to
offer everything the Mac utility offers including backing up the Newton
(within reason, a card+Newt backup could exceed ProDOS file sizes!).

Connection over AppleTalk would be a nice bonus.

Where would I start? I can't find any indication that this has been done.

Why do I want to? Because the ROM 03 GS and the Newton MessagePad are - just
- contemporaries ;)

I doubt I'll manage. I might get bored. However, I'd like to know how at the
very least!

Also - do any UK people have Unidisk 5.25" drives they would sell, lend or
give me? The two I bought from eBay /still/ haven't shown up, my //c
external drive doesn't connect well to the IIgs and seems to corrupt files,
and I have a ][plus 13 sector disk set I want to create images from. I could
use the //c, but then I still can't get my files onto the net.
