Have you tried connecting the display directly to the IIGS's RGB output?
You'd need an adapter (available anyplace that sells Macs, as they'd need
the same adapter to support a VGA monitor), but since it's already able to
sync down to 15.75 kHz H/59.94 Hz V on the composite input, maybe it'll do
the same on the VGA input as well.
