Re: 18 Mhz IIgs?

i had a 11 year burn in test on an apple // bbs i used to run from 1991 to
2002 or so...the bbs subsystem off my web based bbs pkg
(worldgroup/synchronet setup) it was up 24/7 or i tried to keep it up that
much...with usual downtime for equip or power outage failures etc....but
anyway an 11 year attempt as a subsystem off the main bbs for access thru
the web

i had a transwarp gs with the 14mhz chip (from 1991 or whenever the 1st ones
came out) and I did the 14mhz chip modification...i also have the 32k cache
card by a.e. with it (note: always HEAT UP the x-acto knife before cutting
thru the card plastic to the 2 traces they tell you to cut in the mod...i
did it cold...took me 3 times and had a heart attack the first 2 as the
blade SKIPPED accross the back of the board by accident...still gives me the
shakes...then DUH i figured out a heated x-acto knife would have worked 1st
time on the plastic outer surface above the traces..boy i'm dumb)

anyway... i had no problems with the card and running the //gs upgrade and
bbs pkg (fv/metal 4.0xev) via the web those years (took the lid off the //gs
thou for cooling) the stable speed i could get running all the time was
(using a CDA test prog i forget the name) was a consistent 13.75 mhz..it
never gave me even 1 glitch other stuff blew up along the way on the bbs but
the twgs always has (did? been down since 2002) up until the end of the bbs
(i'd run the CDA for speed test every year or so ...looking for some kinda
problems etc)

so if you are looking for always on results...that was what i used to
get...i heard back in the day..that the twgs cards were more stable for high
speed then the zips...and i think i got lucky...most bbs's of that time
running 24/7 like mine that i had contact with were doing 12.5 or so on a
twgs 24/7 on their bbs's...

anyway my 2c worth
