If you've tried disks from various sources that worked in the senders
drives then I'd think that the disks wouldn't likely be the prpblem.
You might want to clean the heads again before trying the disks you
were mailed. I've seen defective disks that instantly coated the heads
with gunk and made it impossible to read other disks without a head
cleaning.

13 sector disk controllers is unlikely but possible. If they're Apple
brand controllers then telling us the part numbers on the PROMs or
posting a pic would settle that.

You might want to pull the covers off the drives and examine the chips
for obvious damage. If the disk II cable had been incorrectly
connected to the controller at some time then it may have fried some
chips in the drive. In those cases the damage is sometimes visivle
and sometimes not.
