: A luck find at a thrift store yielded a Transwarp GS! The info
screen says
: it is version 8S, Revision 1.5w. When I initially set it up,
all diagnostic
: tests passed. When I shut the system down to plug everything
back in after
: testing it, no TW startup screen, and the computer now starts
as if OPTION
: had been held down, that menu appears. After running the
diagnostic tests
: again, the non-volatile RAM **Failed** 1. What does this mean?
Is there a
: little battery on the TWGS that needs to be changed?

Nope, it's an EEprom. X2444P, which can be replaced with
a 24C44P and you can get that from Jameco. I believe that
DigiKey also has them, but Jameco for sure. I had to get
one for mine. Yours, I believe has 8K cache and version
1.5 of the firmware is an older one, but I think you need
the 32K cache to go up to 1.8.

I would try scootching up and reseating all of the
socketed chips before attempting to replace any of
the parts. FYI, mine had a corroded pin on the CPU,
which was so bad that after playing with it a few
seconds it broke off and I needed to replace the
CPU. If you need a CPU, email me. I can dig up my
spare, or send you to someone who can sell you one
for I think $6.95
