Re: Ethernet & Internet on Apple 2
on a side note..what is fun that i used to do when i had an internet capable
bbs setup (worldgroup) and synchronet (www.synchro.net freeware tcp/ip pkg
etc bbs) was to have serial connections to my fv/metal 4.0xev apple // bbs
on one gs and tpro 4.2f rpg software on my 2nd gs...
in other words people would connect to my msdos based bbs setup and then
serially connect to the old apple // bbs and therefore could "play" its 1982
again on an apple 2 bbs pkg (ie...first come first serve 1 user at a time
don't ya know)
anyway ...if you run a web site/or something similar it is better then just
using the gs's as door stops or put them in a closet
i really need to start a retro computer club and get all this up again (the
other 4 sysops moved away ..not as much fun just 1 guy doing it..was a lot
more fun with beers and buddies doing it) and of course 1/4 the expense of
running a pretty good sized game site
anyway ..that is pretty much the only apple // internet angle that i ever
came accross.....that and maybe having a pretty large file server under the
pc side with apple // files
anyway on a menu driven ms-dos bbs pkg ..text driven or via a web page menu
link it was pretty seemless looking to who ever used those links to the bbs
anyway....thats what i did (and hopefully will get the beast up again off
some www game server and do it on the side for fun again someday ...
brad
former sysop lost-gonzo.com (still down)
p.s. of course these apple // bbs packages from a dos 3.3 version of
applenet (ie safehouse bbs 1982) and tpro 4.2f RPG bbs pkg (guy t. rice)
and fv/metal 4.0xev (ie...complements from old boycott bbs) are written in
basic and/or in fv/metal bbs softwares METAL text script format...so if you
did have an ethernet apple // bbs card and could program you could prob
figure out a way to use them in conjunction with the above programs with the
proper hooks...but i don't program...but thats my guess..assuming it was
worth doing
but again ..this was the only way I could do anything with the internet
(again don't program at all) i used hardware and other ms dos bbs pkgs or
programs to kludge them up
