These small LCD monitors generally have good horizontal resolution. But most
of them (98% or so :)) have only half the vertical resolution. So I'd think
that IF 40 columns is legible, 80 columns should be evenly legible.

I haven't found a small LCD with good vertical resolution yet. Those 13"-15"
LCD televisions have the full resolution, but they can hardly be classified
as small :).

Although... Take a look at this page:

=LCD%20Monitors. The ALCD64VGAV halfway down the page has 640x480 resolution
and takes NTSC or VGA. For NTSC computers, this one might be perfect. It's
price is $563,- though :+).
