My impression is that it did offer relatively high density at a time
when other memory wasn't up there yet, with the advantage that it was
non-volatile.  Before it had a chance to drop in price, that whole
circular popular makes it cheap/cheap makes it popular, non-bubble
memory had a chance to catch up, in density and price.  At that point,
the issues of bubble memory came into play.
