by

slow

To Robert: He didn't imply that it ever ran at 4MHz.

To Wayne: I would think that if the oscillator failed
that it may still run and at the slowest possible speed.
In reference to the oscillator controlling speed, that
would only govern the overall speed of the cpu, which
would be 1MHz with a 1MHz cpu. I would check both if it
were my machine. I'm tempted to put a 14MHz cpu in mine
and see how high a crystal I can put in it before it
finally bombs.
