Re: ProTERM 3.1 with Null-Modem link to PC

The super serial card and PC does not need a null modem connection if
the SSC is setup right. Set the jumper on the SSC card for the arrow
on the jumper block at the back of the card to point down and then you can buy a "modem" cable (9 pin to 25 pin) and hook it up and should be able to talk. I use this setup for ADT to transfer floppies to my Apple. Hope this helps.

Hiya All..

I've been playing around with a VB.NET program to talk to my //e,
which has a Super Serial Card II in it.

To test things on the Apple II side, I'm using ProTERM 3.1. I set up
a "system" in ProTERM called "LOCAL", 9600, and no phone number. On
the PC side, I open the COM1: port and on the Apple //e side I tell
ProTERM to Dial. ProTERM sees the connection and if I send characters
from the PC to the Apple //e REALLY REALLY slow (like 0-baud! 1 char
every 2 seconds) they show up, but anything faster and it prints the
first character and nothing else (once in a while it'll print an extra
character I sent.)

Example:

  PC sends: TESTING123

  ProTERM shows: T

If I repeat it a bunch of times (I've tried this at 300, 1200, and
9600 baud):

  PC sends: TESTING123TESTING123TESTING123TESTING123

  ProTERM shows: TT2T

I'm wondering if ProTERM is actually busy trying to do something else
- like read a response code from the modem that it maybe thinks is
there? Not sure..

I'm sure the connection is working, though -- If I go into AppleSoft
and do "IN#2", then the Apple sees everything find. I can send data
at 9600 baud and it shows up on the //e fine.

Anyone know if ProTERM can handle null-modem connections?

Maybe I'll just program the PC side to emulate a modem.. Then maybe
ProTERM will be happy about things.. I'd like to use ProTERM as it's
got a lot of file transfer stuff built in..
